How To Manage Subscriptions And Dunning

Subscriptions represent recurring customer relationships.

Subscription Statuses

Subscriptions can be:

  • Pending.
  • Trialing.
  • Active.
  • Past due.
  • Paused.
  • Cancelled.
  • Expired.

View Subscriptions

1. Open AweCommerce, then Subscriptions. 2. Search or filter subscriptions. 3. Open a subscription. 4. Review customer. 5. Review plan. 6. Review current period. 7. Review next payment date. 8. Review gateway details. 9. Review payment method. 10. Review invoices. 11. Review dunning attempts.

Cancel A Subscription

1. Open subscription. 2. Decide whether cancellation is immediate or at period end. 3. Confirm customer expectation. 4. Cancel. 5. Confirm access policy is applied. 6. Confirm customer email is sent if enabled.

Pause A Subscription

1. Open subscription. 2. Choose Pause. 3. Set resume date if needed. 4. Confirm how access behaves while paused. 5. Save. 6. Confirm customer sees paused status in portal.

Resume A Subscription

1. Open paused subscription. 2. Choose Resume. 3. Confirm next billing date. 4. Save. 5. Confirm customer access is restored if policy allows.

Change Plan

1. Open subscription. 2. Choose Change Plan. 3. Select new price or plan. 4. Review billing effect. 5. Confirm with customer if needed. 6. Save. 7. Confirm the subscription reflects the new plan.

Dunning

Dunning is the recovery process after a failed renewal payment.

A typical dunning flow:

1. Renewal payment fails. 2. Subscription becomes past due. 3. Customer receives payment recovery email. 4. System schedules retry attempts. 5. Customer updates payment method or payment succeeds. 6. Subscription returns to active. 7. If retries fail, the subscription can be abandoned, cancelled, or expired according to policy.

Dunning Admin Checklist

1. Review past-due subscription. 2. Confirm customer email is correct. 3. Confirm payment recovery email was sent. 4. Confirm retry schedule. 5. Check gateway for payment details. 6. Help customer update payment method if needed. 7. Confirm recovered subscriptions return to active.
